On the 2nd of February 1849, the ‘Swedish Nightingale’ Jenny Lind performed with other notable artists at College Hall, Worcester, to raise funds for charity. The event was a great success, with proceeds benefiting the local infirmary.
On the 2nd of February 2024, Hatpin Productions commemorated the 175th anniversary of this event. They created a special performance at the Jenny Lind Chapel, in the infirmary building on the University of Worcester’s city campus, which was featured on BBC Hereford and Worcester radio, BBC Breakfast news and ITV evening news. The Elgar Festival has invited the group to re-enact this historic anniversary event as part of the festival celebrations.
